Decentralized Community Screenings
One of the most exciting things about “i” is the way that it is being distributed.
Along with traditional theater screenings and a speaking tour that the film's production staff have organized, we are also facilitating "Decentralized Screenings." Begining this fall, almost anyone anywhere will be able to host a screening of “i.”
What are "Decentralized Screenings?"
Organizations that share our commitment to community-powered media will be given the resources to hold and organize screenings of this film at their own event.
This distribution strategy mirrors the principles portrayed in the film itself. “i” is largely about the power of decentralized action in combination with associations of affinity. It is our hope to use these two principles to bring “i” to the broadest audience possible by creating an infrastructure that will allow anyone who wishes it to host a screening of “i” at no cost to them and even use it as a fundraiser for their group.
How does this work?
We will send the film, posters and other press materials as well as a series of guided discussion questions to any group who wishes it.
After answering a simple on-line form regarding the logistics of your proposed screening, the event will appear in a searchable calendar with the screenings others have proposed. Your event will have its own web link and page.
Why Decentralized Screenings?
Traditionally touring feature films charge expensive rental fees to theaters who want to screen it. However this requiremen prohibits screenings in small towns where a film might be shown to a gathering in a coffee house, or even in a living room. It is our belief that with the right infrastructure larger events in cities should be able to subsidize smaller events in less populated areas.
Can I still buy the film and watch it at home by myself when I want?
Of course.
Though we really encourage watching this film in a setting where you can discuss it afterward — and believe deeply in the power of films in a group setting — we also understand that its not always possible. In this case you can shell out the cash and buy "i" directly.
